The 48 Laws of Power— Robert Greene |
People who act tough are often the most insecure people.
Most people have at least one weak link. If you know this weak link, you can take advantage of it and gain power to get what you want. If X's weak link is his cousin who X trusts and respects with all of his heart, gain the respect from the cousin and it'll be easier to get what you want from X.
People who have a greed for anything is easy to take advantage of. This is why you see so many people falling for get rich quick schemes, sex scams, etc... Greed is a dangerous game to play.
Everyone wants to feel important and be heard, this is a weakness by itself.
The Strategy of the Crown: Believe that you are destined for great things, and great things will come your way. Your confidence will attract others and they will want you on their side
|
On the importance of pursuits: "The greatest unhappiness which one can experience is to have a life to live without a work to do, and to come to the end of life without its fruit of accomplished work."
Happiness in the flow state: The happiest people are the ones who can absolutely immerse themselves in work loosing track of space and time.
A cause of unhappiness for many workers can be that they are never seeing the outcome of their work.
How to find meaning in work: "Do your work from a sense of duty, or for love of what you are doing,"
|
Defenition of antifragility: "anything that has more upside than downside from random events (or certain shocks) is antifragile; the reverse is fragile."
No one can certainly predict the future.
The chief ethical rule: "Thou shalt not have antifragility at the expense of the fragility of others."
Many people are fragile because they believe that what they do not see is not there, and what they don't understand does not exist.
Policy makers didn't get us where we are today, risk takers did.
The Little Book of Stoicism— Jonas Salzgeber |
The difference between today’s school system and the school system 2000 years ago: The ancients taught you how to live a good life, not how to work in order to make someone else live a good life.
The stoic philosophy applies to all: Men or women, rich or poor, it doesn’t matter. Anyone can live a good life no matter the circumstances.
The circumstance that you find yourself in doesn't matter, it is only what you do that matters.
"As a Stoic student, you learn that only you can ruin your life and only you can refuse to let your inner self be conquered by whatever nasty challenge life throws at you."
